Congratulations and good luck to Ballhawks 18U Boys' Turner Lessard who has made the Fanshawe Falcons men's volleyball team for the upcoming 2022-23 season.  Turner has played six years with the Chatham Ballhawks club program.

16U Ballhawks win bronze medals

The Chatham Ballhawks 16U girls’ team won Division 2, Tier 1 bronze medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association provincial championships Tuesday in Waterloo.

 

The Ballhawks finished with an 8-2 match record at the three-day tournament.

 

They beat the Richmond Hill Thundercats 25-23, 25-20 in the bronze-medal match after a 26-24, 26-24 semifinal loss to the Hamilton Smash Vortex. They began the playoffs with a 25-20, 25-12 sweep of the North Bay Vision in the Round of 16 and then beat the Richmond Hill Venom 25-14, 25-17 in a quarter-final.

 

The Ballhawks went 2-1 in pool play and then went 3-0 in re-pool action.

Marcy Shaw commits to Durham Lords

Congratulations and good luck to Marcy Shaw who has committed to the Durham College women’s volleyball team for next season.  Marcy has played six years with the Chatham Ballhawks club program.  She’s also an experienced beach volleyball player who won silver at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Division II under-16 championships and placed fourth at the Division II under-18 level. Lords head coach Tony Clarke said in a statement. “She has a great mindset that hard work pays off and has proven to be willing to work for everything she has earned."

Ballhawks win gold in Waterloo

April 19TH, 2022, CKSN

The Chatham Ballhawks TNS-3 Girls recently participated in the Ontario Volleyball TNS Girls Championships in Waterloo. The girls went into Division 4 ranked first and finished Strong after the first day of competition with a 3-0 record in pool play defeating the Cambridge Scorpions Chaos, Unity Tenacity and PVC Fire. Friday the group finished with a 2-1 record defeating Twin Bridges Thunder Crash and Phoenix Sparks, before dropping their first match to the Brant Tornadoes.

On Championship Saturday (Apr 16TH), the Ballhawks dispatched PVC Dynamite in the quarters and the Ancaster Lions in the semi finals.

The finals featured the Chatham squad up against the second ranked Cambridge Scorpions Chaos. The Ballhawks came out on top in a thrilling 25-6, 31-33, 15-13 victory to capture the gold medal.

Abby Sluys named Redeemer's female athlete of the year

Congratulation to former Ballhawks alumnus Abby Sluys (Ballhawks 2013-16) for being named Athlete of the year at Redeemer as well as being the MVP for the Women's Volleyball Team.  As a 5th-year veteran on the Women's Volleyball team, Sluys concludes her career with the night's top honour.  In the words of her head coach, Brad Douwes, "Abby's leadership lived up to and exceeded expectations throughout the year. Abby concludes her career, leading the team in points and service aces this season; a first in her career. But more importantly, Abby graduates after positively impacting her teammates and coaches throughout her time as a Royal."  Pictured is Abby Sluys on the left with 2 other former Ballhawks alum, Rachel Annett (Ballhawks 2018-21), and Erica Bultje (Ballhawks 2016-18)

Former Ballhawks alumni Laurin Ainsworth and Natalie Little helped guide the Brock Badgers to not only a perfect season; but more importantly, an OUA title. These ladies will travel with the second ranked Badgers to Calgary for the CIS championships March 25-27.

17U Ballhawks win Tournament Gold

The Chatham Ballhawks 17U girls team won gold at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Bugarski Cup on Saturday in St. Catharines.

The Ballhawks beat the Norfolk Grizzlies 2-1 (27-29, 25-17, 15-11) in the final.

They swept the K-W Predators Chaos 2-0 (30-28, 25-15) in a semifinal and beat the St. Thomas Express 2-0 (25-15, 25-18) in  a quarter-final.

In pool play, the Ballhawks beat Toronto West 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) and the Cambridge Scorpions Toxins 2-0 (25-22, 25-23).

16U Ballhawks Golden in Niagara

Feb 17TH, 2022, Chatham Kent Sports Network ... 

The 16U Chatham Ballhawks travelled to the OVA Challenge Cup in Niagara Falls this past weekend and brought home gold.

In pool play, the Ballhawks kicked off the weekend by defeating Mission Volleyball Club (Kemptville) 2-0 [25-4, 25-11], following by Hummingbird Volleyball Club [Ajax] 2-0 [25-11, 25-23].

Advancing to the quarterfinals, Chatham knocked off Barrie Elites 2-0 [25-12, 25-19]. The team followed this up with a win over Rose City United [Windsor] 2-0 [25-19, 25-21] to advance to the finals.

Having not dropped a game, Chatham came up against a tough Peterborourgh Thunder squad, and played to a hard fought 2-1 [25-14, 24-26, 15-6] victory to take gold.

18U Ballhawks win Bronze

The Chatham 18U Ballhawks won bronze at an Ontario Volleyball Association boys’ tournament this past weekend in Hamilton.

 

The Ballhawks beat London’s LVC Havoc 17-25, 25-22, 18-16 in the bronze-medal match.

The Ballhawks were 1-1 in pool matches, then beat the Pakmen 25-13, 26-28, 15-11 in a quarter-final and lost to Ballistix 25-15, 25-20 in a semifinal.

Laurin Ainsworth commits to Brock Badgers

Erie Beach’s Laurin Ainsworth will play OUA volleyball next season after committing to the Brock University Badgers women’s volleyball program.

 

Ainsworth, who will study kinesiology has been a member of Team Ontario’s volleyball team for the last several seasons along with playing for the Ballhawks.

14U Ballhawks Golden in London

Mar 12TH, 2020, CKSN ... 

The Chatham Ballhawks 14U Girls Blue team won gold this past weekend in OVA action in London on March 7 at the Bugarski Cup..

 

Overall, the Ballhawks went 10-1 in the tournament.

In Pool Play, Chatham beat Halton Hurricanes 2-0 and the Georgetown Impact 2-1.

Facing LC Hammerheads (London) in the quarterfinals Chatham came away with a 25-14, 25-21 win, before beating Forest City Banyan (London) 25-8, 25-10 in the semi-finals.

Playing the EVP Eagles (Oakville) in the championship match, Chatham continued their dominance winning 25-23, 25-17 to take home gold.

Gold and Bronze for Ballhawks

The 15U Boys Chatham Ballhawks won Gold this past weekend in Stratford at the 15U Boys Bugarski Cup.

 

Chatham went 12-1 overall beating Sky Volley Blue (Windsor) 25-5, 25-17 in the quarterfinals, Scorpions Alpha (Cambridge) 25-23, 25-17 in the semi finals, and the Ancaster Lions Fury 19-25, 25-20, 15-12 in the championship match.

The 17U Girls Chatham Ballhawks won Bronze in Petrolia at the 17U Girls Bugarski Cup this past weekend going 8-2 overall.

In the quarterfinals, Chatham beat Twin Bridges Thunderblue (Sarnia) 25-16, 25-20, before falling to Twin Bridges Thunderstruck (Sarnia) 19-25, 15-25 in the semi finals.

The Ballhawks bounced back to beat LVC Fire Ignite (London) 25-23, 25-22 in the bronze medal match.

Ballhawks Enjoy Golden Weekend

The Chatham Ballhawks won three medals this past weekend, including a pair of gold medals.

The Ballhawks’ 13U Girls-Blue team won gold in Windsor at the 13U Girls Bugarski Cup, while the 16U Boys took gold in Waterloo at the 16U Boys McGregor Cup.

The 13U girls went 9-3 overall beating Sky Volley Blue (Windsor) 2-0 and falling 1-2 to LVC Fire (London) in pool play. In the quarterfinals, the Ballhawks ousted their fellow Chatham Ballhawks White team 25-6, 25-14. In the semifinals, Chatham played LS Great Whites (London) winning 25-21, 24-26, 15-8 before beating Sky Volley White (Windsor) 25-13, 25-14 in the final.

The 16U Boys struggled in Pool Play losing 0-2 to Thundercats Legacy and 0-2 to KW Predators.

Facing Sky Volley Nitro (Windsor) in the quarterfinals, the Ballhawks boys found their groove winning 25-11, 19-25, 15-9 to advance them to the semifinals against the Oakville Thunder Blue, who they beat 25-17, 18-25, 15-9 to advance to the finals.

Facing the Thundercats Legacy (Richmond Hill) in the final, Chatham won a nailbiter match 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 to take gold.

The Chatham Ballhawks 16U Girls team also won a bronze this weekend in Georgetown at the 16U Girls McGregor Cup.  Chatham opened with a 2-1 win versus Markham Unity Fierce a 1-2 loss to Ancaster Lions Safari in pool play. In the quarterfinals against LVC Scorch (London), Chatham won 25-19, 25-22.  In the semi-finals however, the Ballhawks fell to Titans Menace (Scarborough) 16-25, 25-17, 13-15 before winning the bronze medal match against Ancaster Lions 25-23, 16-25, 16-14.

Ballhawks win three Medals

The Chatham Ballhawks won the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Challenge Cup – Trillium ‘A’ 17-and-under boys’ tournament Saturday in Kitchener.

They beat the top-seeded Waterloo Tigers 25-18, 16-25, 16-14 in the final to finish with a 5-0 record.

They beat the LVC Rage 24-26, 25-17, 15-7 in a semifinal and the EVP Eagles 26-24, 25-21 in a quarter-final.

Also Saturday, the Ballhawks White won bronze at the Challenge Cup – Trillium Green ‘A’ 14U girls’ tournament in London.

The Ballhawks swept the KW Predators 25-20, 25-21 in the bronze-medal match. They were unbeaten until they lost to the LVC Explode 25-11, 25-10 in a semifinal.

 

On Sunday, the host 16U Ballhawks won silver at the Challenge Cup – Trillium ‘A’ 17U girls’ tournament at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

The Ballhawks lost to LVC Fire Inferno 25-19, 25-23 in the final after beating Twin Bridges 25-11, 22-25, 15-12 in a semifinal and sweeping Forest City 25-14, 25-19 in a quarter-final.

The host Chatham Ballhawks won two medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association’s Provincial Cup – Trillium ‘A’ 17-and-under girls’ tournament Saturday at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

The 17U team won silver and the 16U team won bronze.

The 17U Ballhawks lost to South County Teal 23-25, 25-14, 15-12 in the final. They beat the 16U Ballhawks 25-21, 25-18 in a semifinal and swept Forest City 25-21, 25-11 in a quarter-final.

 

The 16U Ballhawks beat the London Sharks 25-23, 25-18 in the third-place match. They swept the LVC Fire Smoke 25-14, 25-17 in a quarter-final.

17U Ballhawks win Gold Medals

The Chatham 17U Ballhawks won Division 2 Tier 4 gold medals in the 18-and-under girls’ division at the Ontario Volleyball Association championships last Sunday in Waterloo.

 

The Ballhawks went 3-0 on Day 3 of the three-day tournament by sweeping the Ottawa Phoenix 25-13, 25-19 in the final, the Toronto Phoenix Surge 25-15, 25-22 in a semifinal and the Peterborough Thunder 28-26, 25-21 in a quarter-final.

 

They were 1-2 on Day 1 and 2-1 on Day 2.

Four Ballhawks Teams win Provincial Medals

The Chatham Ballhawks won four medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association championships recently in Waterloo.  The 16-and-under (16U) boys won gold in Division 1 Tier 4, the 16U girls won gold in Division 4 Tier 2, the 15U boys won silver in Division 1 Tier 3 and the 14U boys won silver in Division 1 Tier 5.

The 16U boys went 3-0 in the playoffs Sunday by beating the Milton Edge 2-0 (25-21, 26-24) in the final, the Richmond Hill Reach Rage 2-0 in a semifinal and the Sudbury Northern Chill 2-0 in a quarter-final.

They were 0-3 in their power pool and 2-1 in pool play.

 

The 16U girls went 4-0 in the playoffs by beating the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Flames 2-1 (21-25, 25-23, 15-10) in the final, the Kawartha Krushers 2-0 (25-15, 25-12) in a semifinal, the Etobicoke Galaxy Flares 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) in a quarter-final and the Georgian Bay Vista 2-0 in the round of 16.

They started by going 3-0 in Day 1 pool play, then went 0-3 in Day 2 pool play.

The 15U boys lost to the Niagara Rapids Legend 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) in the final after beating the Milton Edge Razors 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) in a semifinal and the Guelph Jr. Gryphons Gladiators 2-0 in a quarter-final.

They were 2-1 in their power pool and 2-1 in their pool.

 

The 14U boys lost to the Toronto Waves Blue 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) in the final after beating Stratford 2-0 (27-25, 25-15) in a semifinal and the Norfolk Chaos 2-0 in a quarter-final.

They were 1-2 in their power play and 0-3 in their pool.

Two Ballhawks Teams win Bronze

Two Chatham Ballhawks teams won bronze medals at Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments Saturday.

A 16-and-under girls’ team was third at the 16U Bugarski Cup – Championship ‘A’ division at Ursuline, while a 15-and-under girls’ team was third at the 16U Bugarski Cup – Trillium Green ‘A’ division in Windsor.

 

16U Girls - The 16U Ballhawks Blue beat the Waterloo Tigers Black 25-20, 25-22 in their bronze-medal match.

They lost to the Milton Edge 25-23, 25-20 in a semifinal and beat Forest City Blue 17-25, 25-21, 15-12 in a quarter-final.

They had a 4-1 match record, including 2-0 in pool play.

 

15U Girls - The 15U Ballhawks Blue beat the 16U Ballhawks White 25-27, 25-21, 15-12 in their bronze-medal match.

 

The 15U Ballhawks lost to the LVC Wild 26-24, 21-25, 15-8 in a semifinal after beating the St. Thomas Express 25-17, 25-17 in a quarter-final.

They won their pool with a 2-0 record and went 4-1 overall.

15U Ballhawks win Gold

15U Girls -

The host Chatham Ballhawks won gold at a Bugarski Cup tournament Saturday at Ursuline.

The Ballhawks beat Forest City Green 14U 27-25, 25-15 in the final.

They swept South County 25-20, 28-26 in a semifinal and Twin Bridges 25-12, 25-22 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks placed second in their pool. They were 4-1 overall in matches and 9-2 in sets.

17U Ballhawks take Bronze

The 17U Girls Chatham Ballhawks took home bronze medals at the 17U Bugarski Cup Select Tournament in Oakville on the weekend.

The Ballhawks beat Leaside 25-14, 18-25, 16-14 in the bronze match after falling in the semi-finals 25-18, 13-25, 7-15 to eventual gold medal winners FC Green.

Ballhawks win medals

The Chatham Ballhawks won medals at two Ontario Volleyball Association 16-and-under girls’ tournaments Saturday.  The Ballhawks Blue won silver at a McGregor Cup Trillium White tournament in Kitchener and the Ballhawks White won bronze at a McGregor Cup Trillium Green tournament at Ursuline College Chatham.

At Kitchener, the Ballhawks lost to Forest City Blue 25-19, 25-23 in the final to finish with a 4-1 match record.  They beat Sarnia Twin Bridges 25-19, 25-20 in a semifinal and Guelph 25-15, 25-19 in a quarter-final.

At UCC, the Ballhawks beat the London Hammerhead Sharks 19-25, 25-17, 15-9 in the bronze-medal match for a 4-1 match record.

They lost to the London Volleyball Club 25-17, 20-25, 15-5 in a semifinal after beating Stratford 25-18, 25-21 in a quarter-final.

15U Girls - The Chatham Ballhawks won bronze medals at the Trillium White ‘A’ – McGregor Cup tournament Saturday in Ingersoll.

 

The Ballhawks beat Brant 25-19, 16-25, 15-9 in the third-place match.

They lost to Smash Awaken 25-11, 25-18 in a semifinal after beating the Halton Hurricanes Black 14U 33-31, 26-24 in a quarter-final.

They were 1-1 in pool play against London Sharks and SC Black.

16U Boys Golden, 14U Girls Blue take Bronze 

Jan 22ND, 2019 .. 

The 16U Boys Chatham Ballhawks won gold medals in Milton while the 14U Girls Blue took home bronze medals in OVA action in Chatham on the weekend. 

16U Boys - Milton - The boys went 10-3 with a 3 set win over Pakmen Black 15U in the final coming back after a first set loss 17-25 with wins of 25-19 and 15-6.  In the semis, the team defeated the Thundercats 2-1 and Barrie 2-0 in the quarters.  During pool play the boys went 4-1 with match wins over Northern Chill and Markham Unity East.  

14U Girls Blue - Chatham - The girls went 4-1 in match play, the only loss coming in a tightly contested semi-final to eventual gold winners LVC. in 3 sets.   The girls cruised through pool play and q-finals with a 3-0 mark.  The girls rebounded from their loss to take the bronze over Sky Volley 2-1.

Three Ballhawks Teams win Medals

Three Chatham Ballhawks teams won medals at Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments on the weekend.

 

17U Girls

The Chatham Ballhawks won gold at the Championship ‘A’ – McGregor Cup on Sunday in Burlington.  The Ballhawks beat South County 16U 2-0 (25-16, 25-21) in the final. They finished with a 5-0 match record.  The Ballhawks beat the Niagara Rapids Summit 2-0 (25-21, 28-26) in a semifinal and swept the Niagara Fury 2-0 in a quarter-final.

15U Boys

The Chatham Ballhawks won gold at the Trillium ‘A’ – Challenge Cup on Saturday in Cambridge.  The Ballhawks defeated the London Sharks 2-0 (25-17, 26-24) in the final to finish with a 5-0 match record.  The Ballhawks beat Sky Volley 2-0 (25-22, 25-23) in a semifinal and the Waterloo Tigers 2-0 in a quarter-final.

They beat the Oakville Thunder 2-1 and Forest City Blue 2-0 in pool play.

 

16U Girls-White

The Chatham Ballhawks White won silver at the Trillium ‘A’ – Green Challenge Cup on Saturday in Simcoe.  The Ballhawks lost to the Ancaster Lions 2-1 (17-25, 25-21, 15-10) in the final.  They beat the St. Thomas Express 2-0 (25-23, 25-23) in a semifinal and the Simcoe Extreme 2-1 in a quarter-final. In pool play, they lost to the Ancaster Lions 2-0 and beat the St. Thomas Express 2-0.

17U Girls take Gold - 14U Girls Blue grab Silver 

Dec 17 TH, 2018 .. 

The 17U Girls Chatham Ballhawks won gold medals in Cambridge at the 18U Challenge Cup while the 14U Girls Blue took home silver medals in OVA action in Chatham on the weekend. 

 

17U Girls - The girls went 10-3 with a 3 set win over KW Predators Invasion in the final.  Before the final, the team won a thrilling come from behind win in the 3RD set of the semis vs. Waterloo Tigers Black, coming back with a 16-14 win.  

14U Girls Blue - The girls went 8-3 overall with a 2 straight set loss to Woodstock Warriors in the final.  The girls up till then had gone 4-0 in pool play and 4-1 in the Quarters and Semis before running into a tough Woodstock squad.  Well done girls!!

Chatham Ballhawks Win 13u Tournament

The host Chatham Ballhawks Blue won gold medals at the Trillium ‘A’ Challenge Cup tournament Saturday at Ursuline.

The Ballhawks Blue beat the London Sharks 2-0 in the final for a 10-2 overall record.

They beat Ancaster 2-1 in a semifinal and St. Thomas 2-1 in a quarter-final after posting 2-0 wins in pool play against the Smash Strikers and London Sharks.

The Chatham Ballhawks 17U girls team came away with Bronze Medals at the OVA 18U Girls Provincial Cup Tournament held in Kitchener this past weekend.  The team lost a thrilling 3-setter semi-final to eventual gold medalist Redline out of Toronto.    The team bounced back to capture bronze medals over South County 18U Black.  Congrats Girls!

16U Ballhawks win silver

WATERLOO – The Chatham Ballhawks won Division 2 Tier 1 silver medals in the 16-and-under girls' division at the Ontario Volleyball Association championships Sunday.

The Ballhawks lost to the Woodstock Warriors 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 in the final.

 

They beat the Waterdown Raiders 25-15, 23-25, 15-7 in a semifinal, defeated the Durham Attack Red 25-23, 21-25, 17-15 in a quarter-final and beat Richmond Hill Reach Affinity 10-25, 25-21, 15-8 in the round of 16.

 

The Ballhawks went 2-1 in their power pool Saturday by beating Hamilton Smash Teal and the Ottawa Maverick Gamblers and losing to the Markham Wildcats Tigers.

They were 2-1 in the preliminaries Friday by beating the Stratford Stingers and Orillia Suns Eclipse and losing to the Toronto Phoenix Blaze.

14U Ballhawks win silver

WATERLOO – The Chatham Ballhawks White won silver medals in Division 4 Tier 2 at the Ontario Volleyball Association 14-and-under girls' championships Saturday.

The Ballhawks lost to Georgian Bay Vista 25-21, 25-17 in the final after sweeping the Orillia Suns 25-13, 25-14 in a semifinal and beating Lakeside 25-18, 25-19 in a quarter-final.  The Ballhawks were 1-1 in Friday's re-pool after going 2-2 in Thursday's preliminary pool.

 

Also, the Ballhawks Blue 14U team lost to Windsor Sky Volley 20-25, 25-20, 15-9 in the Round of 16 in Division 2 Tier 1 on Saturday. They had a 5-1 record on the first two days.

Ballhawks Put in Strong Showing at Provincials

Three Chatham Ballhawks volleyball teams competed this past weekend in the Ontario Provincial Championships, with strong showings for each.

 

The 15U Girls Blue Chatham Ballhawks team won silver in Division 2 Tier 1. In the Gold medal game against the Waterloo Tigers Black, the Ballhawks fell 12-25, 25-14, 12-15.

They had a strong tournament up until this point, defeating Forest City Blue 25-11, 25-16 in the semi-final, Leaside Lightning 14U (Toronto) 25-27, 27-25, 15-8 in the quarterfinals, and the Stratford Stingers 25-16, 25-21 in the round of 16. The days prior, the Ballhawks went 4-1 in pool play to finish first in their pool both days.

The other 15U Girls White Ballahws team won gold medals in Division 5 Tier 2, finishing with a win over ACTS Elites (Orangeville) 25-11, 25-20 in the final, after beating St. Thomas in the semi-finals 25-20, 25-20, and the Simcoe Pioneer Sharks 25-5, 25-17 in the quarterfinals. They were 4-2 in pool play.

Finally, the 14U Boys Chatham Ballhawks placed 4th in Division 1 Tier 3. The Ballhawks boys lost in the Bronze Medal Game versus the Storm Bolts (Aurora) 25-23, 10-25, 14-16. To get to the bronze game, they fell to the Niagara Rapids Legend (St. Catherines) 12-25, 19-25 in the semis, after defeating the KW Predators Black (Kitchener) 25-17, 25-17 in the quarterfinals.

The Chatham 14U Ballhawks won silver medals at the 15U Bugarski Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in Chatham.

 

The 14U Ballhawks lost to London Sharks Great Whites 25-13, 25-11 in the final after winning their first four matches.  The 14U Ballhawks beat LVC Black 25-19, 25-23 in a semifinal and the 15U Ballhawks White 25-19, 25-17 in a quarter-final. In pool play, they beat the London Tiger Sharks and Sarnia Thunder Twin Bridges.

The 15U Ballhawks White placed fifth.

The host Chatham Ballhawks won silver in the championship 'A' division at the Ontario Volleyball Association's Bugarski Cup 14-and-under boys' tournament Saturday.

The Ballhawks hosted three tournaments at four schools Saturday.

The 13U Ballhawks Blue were seventh in the Bugarski Cup 13U girls' championship 'A' division.  The 13U Ballhawks White were fifth and the 12U Ballhawks were seventh in the Bugarski Cup 13U girls' trillium 'A' division.

The Chatham Ballhawks won silver medals at the Challenge Cup – Championship 'A' tournament Saturday in Stratford.

The Ballhawks lost to Hamilton Smash White 16U 25-21, 25-15 in the final after winning their first four matches.

The Ballhawks beat LVC Fire Red 16U 26-24, 25-14 in a semifinal and the Kitchener Waterloo Predators 15U Ignite 25-11, 25-22 in a quarter-final.

The Chatham Ballhawks won silver medals at the McGregor Cup – Championship 'A' volleyball tournament Saturday in London.

The Ballhawks lost to Forest City Green 20-25, 25-8, 15-13 in the final after winning their first four matches.

The Ballhawks beat Markham Unity North 13U 25-12, 22-25, 15-5 in a semifinal and Forest City Blue 26-24, 25-17 in a quarter-final.

They defeated the Hamilton Smash and St. Thomas Express in pool play.

13U GIRLS

The Ballhawks Blue won silver at the OVA Challenge Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in Belle River.

The Ballhawks lost to Forest City Blue 25-27, 25-17, 16-14 in the final.

They swept Windsor Sky Volley 25-6, 25-9 in a semifinal and Sarnia Twin Bridges 25-15, 25-9 in a quarter-final after going 2-0 in pool play.

 

15U GIRLS

The Ballhawks Blue won silver at the Ontario Volleyball Association's Challenge Cup – Championship 'A' tournament Saturday in Windsor.

The Ballhawks lost to South County Teal 25-18, 12-25, 15-10 in the final.

They beat the Cambridge Scorpions Venom 25-14, 23-25, 15-12 in a semifinal and swept the Waterdown Raiders 25-20, 25-17 in a quarter-final after going 2-0 in pool play.

 

14U BOYS

The top-ranked Ballhawks lost to the Cambridge Scorpions 19-25, 25-22, 17-15 in the final.

They swept the London Fire and KW Predators in the playoffs after going 2-0 in pool play.

CHATHAM – The 14U Girls Chatham Ballhawks had a successful Saturday in OVA action in Chatham. The Ballhawks hosted an OVA Under-14 girls tournament at CKSS where 14g-blue came in 2nd and 14g-white placed 7th in the 9 team tournament.

 

At the Provincial Cup Tournament held on Saturday at Chatham Kent Secondary School, the 14U Ballhawks Blue team walked away with silver medals in the Trillium Division. The Ballhawks were defeated in the final by South County Black in an exciting, three-game match 25-11, 22-25, 15-10 for the second place finish.  The Ballhawks entered the playoffs and faced Sarnia Twin Bridges in the quarter-final match and defeated them in two straight games. The girls then took on Forest City Blue in the semi-finals in another two-game match.

Kent Volleyball's HPC Camp wrapped up Saturday at St Clair Thames Campus Healthplex.  Pictured are members of u14-u17 Ballhawks girls getting ready for the upcoming season!  They made up roughly half of the total camp - way to  go!! The camp was led by University of Western's Women's Head Coach Melissa Bartlett and members of the UWO women's team (including Chatham's own Maddy Hiltz) as well as Randy Bartlett, our very own Technical Director and UWOWVB assistant coach, and Coach Colin Pittuck.  Great work ladies!!  (Aug 26, 2017)

Ballhawks give awards

 

Seven players received the Ontario Volleyball Association's Award of Excellence medals at the Chatham Ballhawks' year-end banquet recently.

The winners were: Kinsey Moon and Elliot Cowan, 13U girls; Abby Brown, 14U girls; Laurin Ainsworth, 15U girls; Ashton Van Helden, 15U boys; Natalie Little, 16U girls; and Calum O'Hara, 16U boys.

The OVA medals are for players on 12U to 16U teams.

Chatham trio at nationals

Three Chatham players – Andrea Crow, Mattea Deleary and Abby Sluys – helped the South County Bandits reach the semifinals at the Volleyball Canada 18-and-under girls' national championship last weekend in Edmonton.

Crow and Sluys are outside hitters and Deleary is a right-side hitter. They played with the Chatham Ballhawks before joining the Windsor-based Bandits this season.

All three Chatham players are slated to join post-secondary teams next season.

Crow has signed with the University of Waterloo and will study chemical engineering. Sluys will go to Redeemer University College and study applied social sciences. Deleary has committed to Fanshawe College and will study early childhood leadership.

Ballhawks win two medals

WATERLOO – The Chatham 13U Ballhawks won gold and the 15U Ballhawks won silver at the Ontario Volleyball Association championships Sunday.

 

The 15-and-under girls lost to the Leaside Lightning in the Division 1 Tier 4 final after beating the Kingston Pegasus in a semifinal and the Orillia Suns Eclipse in a quarter-final.  They began the three-day tournament by beating the Scarborough Titans Evolution and Leaside Lightning for a 2-1 record Friday, then went 0-3 on Saturday against three teams ranked in the top 20.

 

The 15U Ballhawks won one silver and two bronze at tournaments earlier this season

 

The 13-and-under girls beat the Forest City St. Thomas Express 20-25, 25-16, 15-13 in the Division 3 Tier 2 final.

They also swept the London Fire Ignite 25-10, 25-19 and the Ancaster Lions 25-15, 25-10 in the playoffs.

WATERLOO – The 15U Boys Chatham Ballhawks volleyball team captured silver in division 1, tier 4 this past weekend at the Ontario Championships in Waterloo.

 

All of the 3 competition days resulted in a 5-5 overall record, including a 2-1 record on championship Sunday defeating London Inferno Fire (25-18, 25-20), and Velocity (25-20, 25-22). The boys were then then defeated by Kingston VC (17-25, 17-25) in the championship game.

17U Ballhawks Golden

The Ballhawks beat the Guelph 16U Jr. Gryphons Black 25-20, 25-13 in the Division 3 Tier 1 final.

They swept VC Troyka 25-21, 25-17 in a semifinal after beating the London Sharks Great Whites 25-13, 23-25, 15-10 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks finished with an 8-1 match record.

They went 3-0 in pool play against the Toronto Diamonds (25-6, 25-8), Vista (25-21, 25-17) and Kingston Pegasus (25-16, 25-11).

They were 2-1 in the re-pool against the Pickering EVC Heat (25-11, 25-16), 16U Jr. Gryphons (25-22, 25-19) and Toronto West 16U (25-23, 17-25, 13-15).

16U Girls Ballhawks win Bronze

The Chatham 16U Ballhawks beat the 15U Ballhawks 25-18, 25-20 in the bronze-medal match at the Bugarski Cup – Trillium 'A' 16U girls volleyball tournament Saturday at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

The 16U Ballhawks lost to Sky Volley 25-22, 25-19 and the 15U Ballhawks lost to the eventual champion Waterloo Tigers in the semifinals.

In the quarter-finals, the 16U Ballhawks beat the Durham 15U Attack White 25-17, 25-20 and the 15U Ballhawks beat the London 15U Great Whites.

The 16U Ballhawks were second in their pool with a 2-1 record, while the 15U Ballhawks won their pool.

14U Ballhawks win Silver

The Chatham Ballhawks won silver medals at the McGregor Cup – Championship 'A' tournament Saturday in Stratford.

 

The ninth-seeded Ballhawks lost to Windsor Sky in three sets in the final.

They beat the Cambridge Scorpions, Forest City and Milton Edge Razors in the playoffs.

The 15U Chatham Ballhawks girls captured silver medals on the weekend in The McGregor Cup- OVA Championship tournament held in Chatham at Ursuline College.

The Ballhawks entered the tournament ranked 4th and shared a pool with Hamilton Smash- Purple and Forest City- Green out of London. The girls defeated Hamilton in 3 games (25-15. 22-25. 15-12), but were humbled by Forest city in 2 straight games (25-11, 25-16.)

Chatham entered the playoffs and faced the Waterloo Tigers- Black whom they started slow against but finally came out on top in 3 games yet again (19-25, 25-23, 15-9.) This brought up a rematch from the last tournament in Chatham but this time it was in the semi finals facing the other Forest City team in the tournament; Forest City- Blue. The result was very similar with the Chatham squad defeating London 2 straight (25-15, 25-21).

The Ballhawks then entered the finals against the Forest City Green team that defeated them earlier in pool play. The Ballhawks girls gave it their all pushing London to the brink, but were eventually defeated in 3 games (25-15, 20-25, 15-8). All of the girls made tremendous contributions throughout the day in helping secure the silver hardware in front of the home crowd.

15U Girls Ballhawks Battle to Bronze

At the Challenge Cup tournament held Sunday at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, the 15U girls Chatham Ballhawks team walked away with bronze medals in the Championship Division. The Ballhawks defeated Forest City Blue 25-16, 25-23 for the bronze hardware.

 

The Chatham girls started slow dropping the first match of the day to the Oakville Blue Thunder 8-25, 25-22, 8-15, but rebounded against the Stratford Stingers taking them down by scores of 22-25, 25-14, 15-13. The division ended up in a three way tie after the round robin and the Ballhawks ended up in 3rd position due to point differential.

The Ballhawks entered the playoffs and faced the Kitchener Waterloo Predators in the Quarter final match and defeated them in 3 hard fought games. The girls then took on Defensa from Burlington in the semi finals and dropped a 3 set heartbreaker before dispatching London Forest City for the bronze.

CHATHAM – The Chatham Ballhawks 14U girls volleyball team captured gold at the 14U Girls Challenge Cup held this weekend in Chatham, Ontario.

The Ballhawks completed the feat without losing a set over 5 matches.

Chatham defeated the Sarnia Twin Bridges Thunder Storm 25-21, 25-17 in the championship final.

To get there, the Ballhawks ousted London Forest City Blue in the semis (25-12, 25-9) and the Brant Tornados (25-23, 25-15) in the quarters.

The 14U Ballhawks also beat London Forest City Green 13U 25-11, 25-18, and London Fire Intensity 25-17, 25-15 in pool play.

2015-16 Season

17U Ballhawks Win Provincial Gold

WATERLOO – The Chatham Ballhawks 17-and-under girls team won gold medals in the 18U division at the Ontario Volleyball Association championships Sunday.

The Ballhawks didn't lose a match at the three-day tournament, finishing with a set record of 18-7 in Division 2 Tier 1.

 

The Ballhawks beat the Barrie Elites 26-24, 32-34, 15-8 in the gold-medal match.

They swept Toronto Galaxy Black 25-17, 25-18 in a semifinal after beating the Casselman Pumas 23-25, 25-17, 15-13 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks went 3-0 in pool play against the Georgian Cubs, Hamilton Smash and Oakville Thunder White. Then they went 3-0 in re-pool play versus the Oakville EVP Eagles, Barrie Elites and Galaxy Black.

The 16U girls Chatham Ballhawks won gold at the Bugarski Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in London.

The Ballhawks rallied to beat Forest City Blue 20-25, 25-20, 15-11 in the final.

They knocked off top-seeded South County 15U Teal 25-16, 25, 10 in a semifinal after beating South County White 25-22, 23-25, 15-7 in a quarter-final.

On Saturday February 27th, the 17U Chatham Ballhawk girls travelled to Kitchener to play in the 18U Bugarski Cup, Trillium A. The Ballhawks were ranked 3rd in this 10 team tournament.

 

In the quarter finals, the Ballhawks faced the Georgetown Impact 17U, beating them two straight, 25-17, 25-20.  In the semi-finals, the Ballhawks had a rematch with LVC 17U Ignite. This was a well fought match, going three games. The Ballhawks played well, taking the third set into extra points, but came up short; 25-23, 17-25, 14-16.

 

The Chatham Ballhawks defeated the Stratford Stingers 18U in the Bronze match. Again this match went to three sets, with the Ballhawks coming out on top; 25-22, 26-24, 15-10.

The 17U girls Chatham Ballhawks won silver medals at the Bugarski Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in Stratford.

The Stratford 16U Stingers beat the Ballhawks 25-23, 19-25, 15-10 in the final.

The Ballhawks swept Forest City 16U Blue 25-16, 25-18 in a semifinal and beat Twin Bridges 17U 25-12, 25-20 in the first playoff round.

This past weekend the Chatham Ballhawks 14U girls captured silver medals in Windsor in OVA action. As well, the 15U Chatham Ballhawks boys team captured bronze medals in Chatham in OVA action.

The 14U Girls Ballhawks went 2-0 in match play defeating the Stratford Scorpions and the South County Bandits respectively in pool play finishing first after the round robin. They took out the Cambridge Scorpions in the quarter finals in 2 straight games. The Chatham girls needed 3 games to get by London Forest City 13U in the semi finals, setting up a showdown with LVC (London Volleyball Club) “Intensity” for the gold medal. They won the first set 25-19 before dropping a tough 25-23 decision in the second. In the third the Ballhawks just could not put LVC away despite leading the majority of the match. The Ballhawks finally conceded a 15-12 score and walked away with the silver medal.

 

The Chatham 15U Boys took part in the Challenge Cup held at CKSS this past weekend with the Ballhawks taking the bronze medal with a win over London Forest City 14U 25-15 25-20 after dropping a long hard-fought match in the semis
to Stratford VBC 25-23 23-25 16-14.

They won the quarter-final over London Sharks 25-15 15-25 15-9. Chatham finished first in pool play with wins over London VC 27-25 25-17 and Forest City 14U 13-25 25-2- 17-15.

The Chatham Ballhawks 14-and-under girls volleyball team won gold medals at the Challenge Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in Essex.

The Ballhawks swept Forest City Green 13U in the final. They rallied from a 24-21 deficit to win the first set 28-26 and then won the second 25-21.

The top-ranked Ballhawks finished with an 11-1 record.

They swept the host South County Bandits in a semifinal and the LVC Fury in a quarter-final.

In pool play, the Ballhawks placed first by sweeping the Twin Bridges Thunder and the Woodstock Warriors 13U before splitting with the LVC Ignite.

 

16U Girls

The Ballhawks won bronze medals at the Challenge Cup – Trillium 'A' tournament Saturday in Sarnia.

The Ballhawks beat the host Twin Bridges Thunder 25-21, 25-19 for third place.

They lost to the Hamilton Smash 25-18, 25-13 in a semifinal after beating the Waterloo Tigers Summit 25-20, 20-25, 15-12 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks won their pool by beating Twin Bridges 25-14, 25-14 and Waterloo Tigers Elevation 25-16, 25-14.

The 13U girls "white" Chatham Ballhawks won Bronze Medals recently at the OVA Provincial Cup tournament.

 

Ranked 8TH going in to tourney, the Ballhawks surprised many finishing second in their pool with 15-25, 18-25 games versus Forest City Blue and a 25-11, 25-12 against LVC Ignite.

In the quarterfinals the Chatham Ballhawks beat the SVC Stingers 12-25, 29-27, 20-18.

After falling to the London Great Whites in the semi-final, 18-25, 15-25, the Ballhawks bounced back to beat Forest City Blue 20-25, 25-18, 15-11 to win the bronze medal.

Two Chatham Ballhawks teams won silver medals at Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments Saturday.

The 17-and-under girls were finalists at the 18U Provincial Cup Trillium 'A' tournament in Kitchener, while the 18U boys were runners-up at the Provincial Cup Championship West tournament in Welland.

 

18U Boys

The Ballhawks lost 2-0 to Oakville Lakeside in the final after knocking off the Windsor Riverside Rage 2-1 in a semifinal.

They swept the Niagara 17U Rapids 2-0 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks were second in their pool. The round-robin included a win over Lakeside.

 

17U Girls

Forest City 17U Green beat the fifth-ranked Ballhawks 25-20, 25-23 in the championship.

The Ballhawks' silver medal was their second in two weeks.

The Ballhawks beat the Oxford Crush 25-23, 19-25, 15-13 in a semifinal and swept the Waterloo Tigers 25-16, 25-11 in a quarter-final.

They placed second in their pool by losing to the KW Predators 15-25, 25-16, 15-7 and beating the Waterloo Tigers Red 25-16, 20-25, 15-3.

The Chatham Ballhawks won silver medals at two Provincial Cup Trillium 'A' tournaments Saturday.

The 15-and-under girls were finalists at the Ontario Volleyball Association tournament in Simcoe, while the 17-and-under girls were runners-up in Windsor.

 

15U GIRLS: The Ballhawks lost to the South County Bandits in the final.

The previously unbeaten Ballhawks lost to Forest City 25-13, 25-14 in the final.

The Ballhawks rallied to beat the South County 16U Bandits 22-25, 25-22, 15-10 in a semifinal and swept the Stratford Stingers 25-22, 25-18 in a quarter-final.

The top-seeded Ballhawks placed first in their pool by beating the Brant Tornadoes 25-18, 25-14 and the Twin Bridges Thunder 25-12, 25-10.

Novi, Michigan – The Chatham Ballhawks beat Crank It! 25-20, 25-22 in the final of the Motor City Madness tournament in Novi, Mich., on Sunday.

The Ballhawks beat Michigan Elite Copper 25-10, 27-25 in a semifinal and Michigan Elite 16 North 23-25, 25-14, 15-10 in a quarter-final.

They were in the playoff round's silver division after placing second in their pool with a 2-1 record.

In pool play, the Ballhawks lost to Michigan Elite 15 Black before beating Great Lakes 16 and Michigan Elite 16.

WATERLOO – The Chatham Ballhawks won gold medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association 15-and-under boys championships Sunday.

The Ballhawks beat the Aurora Storm RipTide 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 in the Tier 2 final in Division 1.

They also defeated the North Bay Vision 25-23, 25-9 in a semifinal and the Burlington Blaze 25-22, 24-26, 15-13 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks finished the tournament with a 7-2 record, including five three-set victories.

They were ranked 15th in the 36-team division after placing third at two OVA tournaments.

Last season, they won silver as a 14U team at the Ontario championships.

17U Boys Ballhawks Golden

The U17 Chatham Ballhawks boys volleyball team continued the organizations recent dominance at the Bugarski Cup, winning gold earlier this month at the tournament.

 

The U17’s become the third Ballhawks age group to win or medal at the tournament in recent weeks.

They finished round robin play undefeated, first in their pool. They defeated Etobicoke E381 Eagles (25-10, 25-18), Riverside Rage (25-13, 25-19), and Toronto West (25-16, 26-24).

In the semi-finals, they beat Forest City Green (20-25, 25-20, 17-15).

Finally, the Chatham Ballhawks won gold, beating Guelph Grizzlies (25-21, 25-21).

After winning gold only a week ago at the Bugarski Cup, the U16 Chatham Ballhawks volleyball team had another successful outing this past weekend, winning silver at the Legacy Volleyball Tournament in Novi, Michigan, and gold at the Huron Valley Volleyball Tournament in Saline, Michigan.

 

On Saturday at the Legacy Volleyball Tournament, the Ballhawks captured silver, losing New Boston 26-24, 25-23. 

 

Sunday the Ballhawks travelled to Saline, Michigan to play in the Huron Valley Volleyball Tournament, where the U16 Chatham squad captured gold.  In pool play, Chatham swept their competition defeating Arsenal 16U Cavalry (25-10, 25-19), TVO 16U (25-20, 25-11), and the Livonia Chargers (25-6, 25-16).

In the semi finals, Chatham played a team from Dundee, Michigan, winning both sets 25-10, 25-18 to advance to the gold medal final against Arsenal 16U Battalion. Chatham again dominated, finishing their undefeated run on the day with 25-16, 25-17 wins to capture gold.

15U Boys Take Bronze in London

The Chatham Ballhawks 15U Boys volleyball team captured another bronze medal at the Bugarski Cup last Saturday in London.  The boys cruised through pool play at 2-0, defeated Stratford Cobras in the quarters, but lost to Forest City in the semi-finals 2-1.  Missing key players due to illness and injury, the Ballhawks were able to rally to grab the bronze medal over a strong LVC Fire 2-0.

 

After three Ontario Volleyball Association competitions, the 15U Ballhawks have placed third twice, and one fourth place finish.  The boys now aim to have a successful Ontario Championship tournament this April in Waterloo.

The U16 Chatham Ballhawks girls volleyball team captured gold this past weekend, beating older competition at the U17 Bugarski Cup in Simcoe, Ontario.

 

After finishing second in their pool, the Ballhawks advanced to face another Chatham-Kent team, the Kent Chaos in the quarter finals. The Ballhawks swept their local rivals 25-15 25-23 to advance to the semis.

Facing the London Fire Ignite in the semis, Chatham dropped their opening game 25-16, before bouncing back 25-18 and 15-8 to defeat the London club and advance to the championship match.

In the final, Chatham would face a tough Waterloo Tigers Black club, and again needed three games to take the tournament title. Chatham opened with a 25-19 win, before losing the second set 25-17, before polishing off their gold medal performance with a 15-9 third set win.

The Chatham 17U Ballhawks won bronze medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association's Challenge Cup – Championship West 18-and-under boys tournament Saturday in Richmond Hill.  The Ballhawks avenged an earlier loss by beating the Etobicoke White Eagles 25-20, 25-23 for third place.  They lost to No. 1-seeded MAC 25-13, 25-22 in a semifinal after sweeping North Bay Vision 25-20, 25-21 in a quarter-final.  The Ballhawks were 1-1 in the round-robin, beating the Brampton Selects and losing to the White Eagles.

The Chatham Ballhawks won bronze medals at the Ontario Volleyball Association's Challenge Cup 15-and-under boys tournament Saturday in London.

The Ballhawks beat the Waterloo Tigers 25-12, 22-25, 25-10 in the third-place match.

They lost to the eventual champion Georgetown Impact 20-25, 25-18, 15-13 in a semifinal after sweeping London Forest City 25-9, 25-23 in a quarter-final.

The Ballhawks placed second in their pool. It was their first tournament of the season.

2013-14 Season
14U Boys Silver Medalists

The Chatham Ballhawks 14U Boys volleyball team won the Tier 2 silver medal at the Ontario Volleyball Championships on the weekend of April 4-6 in Waterloo.

 

Ranked 23rd of 29 teams in the 14U Boys division, the Ballhawks were the surprise of the tournament playing to an overall record of 6-4 on the weekend. After winning important pool play games on Friday and Saturday, they were rewarded with a quarter-final berth in the elimination round on championship Sunday.

The Ballhawks soared through the quarters and semi-finals, defeating the Ottawa Fusion (25-12, 25-21) and the Leaside Thunder (25-16, 25-20) but were defeated in the finals by the Markham Stingers (25-9, 25-23). Strong play at the net, serving and relentless defense were important factors that led to the silver medal.

Three local members of the Chatham Ballhawks Under 16 Boys Volleyball Team won Silver at the Ontario Winter Games in Midland, Ontario, with the tournament taking place from February 27 to March 2.

 

Pierce Johnson, Dawson Gehl, and Trevor Everitt competed as part of the Region 3 West Team. Everitt and Johnson are Chatham-Kent Secondary School students, while Gehl attends Ursuline College.

Bartlett Named New UWO Volleyball Head Coach

Chatham’s Melissa Bartlett has taken a significant step in her volleyball coaching career, as the current Chatham-Kent Secondary School coach and teacher has been named the new Head Coach of the Western University Mustangs women’s volleyball team.

Bartlett currently coaches at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, as well as at the OVA level with the Chatham Ballhawks. She was also the head coach for Team Ontario’s U18 program last season.

A rookie OUA coach, Bartlett will replace long time Western Mustangs head coach Dave Edwards, who retired earlier this spring after 13 seasons of coaching at Western.

Last season, the London, Ontario university was a middle of the pack team, sitting 6th in the OUA with a 9-9 record.
